As part of CLIMAVORE: On Tidal Zones by Cooking Sections, ATLAS Arts is pleased to invite you to a special evening screening of The Guga Hunters of Ness by Mike Day.

Film Synopsis

The Guga Hunters of Ness, 2010

The film follows ten men of Ness, in Lewis, as they travel to the tiny, desolate island of Sula Sgeir for two weeks each August. There they catch, kill and salt 2,000 young gannets before returning home with the precious guga meat. These are the last people in Europe who are allowed to hunt the birds, and this is the first time the hunters have granted permission for their annual trip to be filmed for 50 years.
