Tobar an Dualchais Artist 2025/26

From a bumper group of applications, Frances Mary-Driscoll was selected as the 2025/26 Tobar an Dualchais Artist in Residence.

Frances is a multidisciplinary artist who grounds her practice in a research-led approach, looking at how culture is continually borrowed and appropriated, reworking both static/moving images and text to examine notions of the original’ and critique tensions between language and image.

She is motivated by a desire to understand through making: her work is rooted in collage, both as process-based methodology and pure aesthetic device, but spans drawing, printmaking, moving-image and text. Interested in language, particularly power dynamics between hegemonic and minority languages and discrepancies between text & image, she adopts a playful and conceptual approach to her artistic practice.

In September 2025, Frances attended the Tobar an Dualchais Creative Connections course. We look forward to following her journey as she begins to work with the archive and local communities in the months ahead.

This residency programme is made possible through ongoing support by Creative Scotland’s Gaelic Targeted fund.
