Everyone is welcome for this informal dinner, come in and grab a bowl of something warm as we reflect on and creatively respond to Virginia Woolf’s To the Lighthouse (1927) and her personal writings about her visit to the Isle of Skye.

Co-facilitated with Skye-based writer Bethan Roberts and Dr Peter Adkins of the University of Edinburgh, the three-hour event will begin with a discussion of Woolf’s depiction of Skye and how ideas around sustainability, housing and tourism resonate with today.

In the second half of the workshop, a creative writing exercise will invite attendees to consider how Woolf’s experiments with language might inspire new responses today, producing postcards that will form part of 2027’s To the Lighthouse centenary exhibition.

A warm, welcoming evening where together we’ll explore how literature and creative writing can offer new ways of thinking and speaking about island life.

Bring a dish if you wish but the communal dinner is free and open to all. Please book tickets for each person attending to assist with catering numbers. Dinner from 6pm.

Free, all welcome (recommended age 16+)
