BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra POP-UP

As part of the BBC’s Ten Pieces initiative, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra had a three-day residency in the Isle of Skye in February 2015. Working in partnership with ATLAS Arts, the musicians performed a series of pop-up’ performances in unexpected locations: surprising shoppers in the aisles of Portree’s Co-operative supermarket and travellers en route between Raasay and Sconser aboard the CalMac ferry.

The short impromptu performances were a way to increase access to the work of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and culminated in a sell-out performance by the whole orchestra in Portree High School. As part of this, Portree Primary School’s animated creative response was premiered.

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra’s residency was covered in the West Highland Free Press.
