A beginner’s guide to foraging. Learn with the land with local forager the Wild Cooke, with prepared tasters on route. Lucy will lead a walk along the Scorrybreac coastal path, ebbing and flowing with the direction of those taking part, and finishing on the shoreline.
Some of the plants we may encounter along the way include Anthriscus sylvestris (Cow Parsley), Sambuca negris (Elder), Epilobium angustifolium (Fireweed or Rosebay Willowherb), Geum urbanum (Herb bennet or Cloveroot or Wood avens), Rumex acetosa (Common Sorrel), Galium aparine (Cleavers or Sticky Willy or Goosegrass) and other edible plants, trees and seaweeds.
Lucy is a self-taught forager interested in how wildfoods can revive connections to nature, place and rhythm. She lives on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula but regularly works on the Isle of Skye and enjoys exploring its wonderful natural larder. With a history of working in the community, food and environmental sectors she loves to combine her experiences and enthuse others by sharing her foraging journey.

Access
Access info: from Portree leave the A855 following Scorrybreac Road with the water on your right to the end of the road here. The walk begins at the car park here following an uneven and possibly muddy footpath, the walk may at points leave the footpath to explore the shore. Walks will only be cancelled in high wind. Please wear suitable footwear and dress for the weather. Bring midge protection too.

Parking: there is parking at the start of the walk, a member of our team will be on hand to direct you. Where possible and if safe to do so please consider car sharing within household groups, or walking from the centre of Portree.
There are public toilets in Portree on the Green (5 mins drive). There is also a disabled toilet here for which you need a RADAR key.
General information
There will be a mobile phone, first aider, first aid kit, water and blankets available at all locations, please ask a member of the team if you need anything or feel unwell at any point.
A Portable Hearing Loop is available at all events. Please speak to a member of staff at the event if you’d like a discrete transmitter for your hearing aid. 2 are available.

Places are extremely limited for these events due to COVID-19. We would kindly ask you to let us know if you have booked a ticket but can no longer attend to allow someone else to join.
COVID-19 Note: We kindly ask that everyone keeps a distance of 2m between themselves and those outside their household at these events. Bring along a face covering for wearing indoors. ATLAS will provide hand sanitiser and will be following all Scottish Government COVID regulations for events.
