Early Warning Signs

For 2017 ATLAS has adopted one of Ellie Harrison’s Early Warning Signs, which is an ongoing project by Ellie, first initiated at Two Degrees festival in 2011. The project aims to allow the four rotating climate change’ signs Ellie produced for the festival to continue to promote their cause long into the future. Each autumn, four new host venues are invited to adopt a sign’, agreeing to keep it on public display for the following year.

The four signs were originally displayed at the art and activism, climate and cuts’ festival outside Artsadmin on London’s Commercial Street from 12 – 18 June 2011. Ellie stated that: They aimed to act as beacons for Two Degrees – utilising the brazen marketing techniques of capitalism, not as a tool to sell us more, but as a tool to simply remind us of the consequences of our consumption’.

By the end of Two Degrees, Ellie felt it seemed vital for the festival, and her integrity as an artist, that the four signs be allowed to continue to promote their cause.

The sign will be on display by the ATLAS Arts office, outside the Skye Gathering Hall, Bank Street, Portree, during office hours: Monday – Friday 10.00am – 5.30pm.

For 2017 the selected host venues are:
