Join us at Buckie’s Pier in Plockton for a collaborative sculpture workshop with Malcolm Mackenzie, as part of From Plockton to Portree: a boat project.

Adapting the European folk story Stone Soup” in which hungry strangers persuade local townsfolk to donate ingredients to make a pot of soup, Malcolm invites participants to bring a piece of wood (any shape or size, found or bought) or something decorative to help collectively make a boat sculpture.

There will be flag painting activities for kids, food and refreshments. If you have one, bring a story about the sea with you too.

From Plockton to Portree is a boat project with Malcolm Mackenzie bringing people together to explore stories and relationships with the sea.

In the summer of 2022, Malcolm invites people to join him on and by the sea in a series of activities leading towards the building of two new coastal rowing skiffs and the re-staging of a race between Plockton and Portree.

Part of the Culture Collective network, the project is supported by ATLAS and SEALL and will take place across Skye and Lochalsh over 2022 – 23.

How to come along

There is no need to book, just come along on the day. If the weather is particularly bad and we have to cancel we will announce this on social media so please keep an eye out nearer the time.

We'll be on the shore Buckie's Pier, just off Harbour St. If the weather is wet then this can be slippy, we will also be working outside on the shoreline. If you have any questions about the event or we can help you to attend, please get in touch at admin@atlasarts.org.uk or call 01478 611143

What to bring with you

A piece of wood (any shape or size, found or bought) and/or something decorative to add to the boat, and if you have a cordless drill and/or work gloves bring those too, as we have a limited number available on the day.

A story about the sea to share while we eat.

We recommend dressing for the weather and bringing wellies/ good sturdy shoes if you have them.
