on the 28th of August 2017 we held the opening of Singing for the Sea at the Skye Sailing Club.

There was a very special performance by Portree and Strath Gaelic choirs at St. Columba Episcopal Church, Portree, from 6.30pm. Followed by a drinks reception, a sea-themed buffet by Relish and the chance to preview the film at the Skye Sailing Club, Scorrybreac Boathouse.

Singing for the Sea is a film installation by internationally acclaimed artist, Bethan Huws, which documents a group of eight female Bulgarian singers performing traditional songs on Sugar Sands, Northumberland, on the coast of the North Sea. The film was co-commissioned by Artangel in 1993. Artangel has now collaborated with ATLAS to bring the work to Skye as part of a broader project, entitled: A Work for the North Atlantic.
