Sophie Morrish

Originally from Hampshire, Sophie Morrish moved from central London, where she studied at Chelsea School of Art and the Royal College of Art, to Scotland in 1996. Her creative practice draws inspiration from the natural world and is firmly rooted in place.

Whilst working as a lecturer at the Glasgow School of Art, Sophie developed her creative practice in what she refers to as her ‘Walden Years’, living in a caravan at the foot of the Campsie Fells. From here she relocated to the heart of The Great Forest of Loch Ard, in the Trossachs. In 2007 she moved to North Uist in the Outer Hebrides where she has maintained an openness towards location and materials. Her work is underpinned by a particular interest in our perception of natural phenomena and human relationship to ‘other’ animal life.
