René Jansen

René Jansen (b. 1962) is originally from Den Bosch, in the Netherlands. His creative practice is grounded in the familiarity of place and arises from a lifelong interest in the ecology of landscape. Through regular, solitary exploration, close attentiveness to seemingly unremarkable configurations in nature reflects an appreciation of the intrinsic beauty to be found in modest, elemental relationships that make up the wider complex connections of the natural world.

Jansen moved to North Uist in 2015. With a background in analogue darkroom photography, Jansen has worked primarily with digital technology for the last twenty years. In 2012 Jansen’s work was selected to represent the Hebrides in Images of Rural Europe, exhibited throughout Scotland and at the European Commission Headquarters in Brussels.
