Margaret Salmon

Born in New York, Margaret Salmon (b. 1975) is a filmmaker who lives and works in Glasgow. Salmon creates filmic portraits that weave together poetry and ethnography – highlighting the mundane rituals of daily human existence. Employing techniques drawn from cinematic movements, such as the European avant-garde and Cinema Vérité, Salmon draws on universal human themes, adding a gentle grandeur. Winner of the first Max Mara Art Prize for Women in 2006, Salmon’s work has been exhibited extensively – including at Whitechapel Gallery, London, and Witte de With, Rotterdam. She also exhibited as part of the 2007 Venice Biennale.
