Transit Arts is a framework for the exhibition of contemporary moving image work in nongallery, outdoor locations. Screening films from the back of a van, the peripatetic curatorial project seeks to engage local audiences through an episodic programme developed specifically in response to that locality.
The project was initiated by Marcus Jack, an independent curator and editor based in Glasgow. Jack primarily deals with the moving image and has developed Transit Arts as a way of engaging film audiences in artist moving image. Since the project’s inception in 2015, Jack has instigated partnerships with Glasgow Short Film Festival, Southside Film Festival and CCA Glasgow to deliver screening programmes and partner publications – primarily concerned with researching themes of labour, infrastructure and the conditions of production.
