Chris Dooks

Chris Dooks (b. 1971), originally from Middlesbrough,  is now a Scottish-based artist who works primarily with photography, film and sound-art. Being diagnosed with M.E in 1998, Dooks has dedicated much of his artistic research to devising ways how to work creatively while suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. This research was central to his PhD at The University of the West of Scotland through which he explored how ‘art practice may serve to offset or augment the relationship between the cultural practitioner and the illness’.

Dooks’ varied work has lent itself to being presented as screenings, lectures, installation, vinyl cut records and performance. In 2003, whilst working with Stills Gallery, Edinburgh, Dooks coined the term Polymash to describe his ‘chaotic multi-disciplinary practice’.
