Bethan Huws (b. 1961) was born in Bangor, Wales. Whilst her work spans different mediums, including drawing, sculpture, film and installation, it often has a strong focus on language and communication. She is interested in subtly altering our experience of spaces to create sites for contemplation to make unexpected links to our experiences of daily life.
Huws has enjoyed international success with solo exhibitions at; Whitechapel Gallery, London, Museum Serralves, Porto, Portugal, Kunstmuseum St Gallen, Switzerland and The Henry Moore Foundation, Leeds. In 2009, Huws was commissioned by Turner Contemporary to make a new film and two new text installations on the Margate Seafront. She won the BACA Europe 2006 award given by the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht and has represented Wales at the Venice Biennale in 2003.
