We are delighted to be part of this year’s Luminate: Scotland’s creative ageing festival, at Tigh
We invite you to join us for a week-long programme of events for older people living in the Isle of Skye, exploring local history and cuisine. Includes cookery demonstrations and conversation, where you’re invited to share your memories of the island, accompanied by a programme of archive short films made about the Isle of Skye and the Outer Hebrides.
As part of our film programme SCREEN-IT, we will be selecting a series of films from as early as 1939 that document crofting, fishing, weaving, cooking, poetry as well as discussions about the way of life then and what holds for the future.
Films:
Salmon Fishing in Skye, 1939
Over the Sea to Skye, 1961
Sorely Macleans Island, 1974
Misty Isle, 1939,
Impressions of Skye, 1959
Crofting in Skye, 1939
As part of our Climavore: On Tidal Zones project with artist duo Cooking Sections, we are hosting two cooking demonstrations with Mania Pietrzak from The Skye Bakehouse. The first session Mania will demonstrate making soda bread and pesto using locally sourced seaweeds, participants can either join in or watch but there will be plenty of opportunity to taste.
