Did you know that as of September 2018 less than 18% of all English Wikipedia biographies are about women?
Or that Scotland and Skye are underrepresented in Wikipedia?
Help us change this! Join us on the 19th and 20th October for a Wiki edit-a-thon where we will take a closer look at women of Skye, past and present and try to re-address some of the gender bias in Wikipedia.
With specially trained Wikipedia editors on hand, together we will research women who have been overlooked or undervalued and create or update Wikipedia entries to shine a light on some of the achievements and stories of women of Skye.
We will provide tutorials and support for beginner Wikipedians, reference materials, refreshments and a delicious lunch.
Bring your laptop (if you have one) and ideas for entries that need updated or created – women with a connection to Skye, past or present.
Click on booking link to find out more and to reserve your spot!
We would encourage people of all gender identities and expressions to participate.
This Event is related to the following Project:
Women of Skye
To mark the centenary of the Representation of the People Act, 1918, which gave many women the right to vote, ATLAS Arts will hold a series of events over the coming year. Some of these will focus on addressing the gender imbalance on Wikipedia by hosting 'edit-a-thons', with the specific aim to create articles for women of Skye who have been overlooked, as well as improving existing content for those who already feature.
