ATLAS Arts is thrilled to have been shortlisted for a 2018 Scottish Rural Award in the Conservation and the Environment category. We were selected as a finalist because of our ethos and commitment to exploring issues relating to the environment. Our artistic programme focuses on the pressing issues of contemporary and rural life in order to help create a stronger sense of identity and place and to foster cultural wellbeing throughout the region. Our programme gives new voice to the rural, through sensitive and deep engagement with our location.

In particular our long-term project CLIMAVORE: On Tidal Zones (started in late 2016 extending over at least three years) demonstrates a clear and proactive approach initiated by ATLAS to enhance and protect the landscape (and in particular the sea) of the Isle of Skye, as well as engaging with national conversations regarding sustainability, promoting biodiversity and suggesting future rural economies.

“We are delighted to be recognised in this way. It shows our commitment to exploring rural issues and concerns through our work with artists. Cooking Sections were great collaborators and enabled us to work with many local partners to deliver this project.”
