ATLAS is hosting a special screening of Thomson & Craighead‘s Belief in the unique setting of Dunvegan Castle.
Belief is a documentary artwork exploring the notion of belief through information sourced online. Starting in Skye with Dunvegan’s Fairy Flag, the two-screen installation presents a series of fragmented broadcasts about belief, all sourced from the video sharing community YouTube. A compass floor projection interacts with the montage showing where each clip originated in relation to the geographical location of the artwork. With a little help from Google Earth viewers are placed at the centre point of this cinematic data visualisation
Belief is the final work in the Flat Earth Trilogy. Supported by Creative Scotland, New Media Scotland’s Alt-w Fund and ATLAS Arts.
Software development for Belief by Matthew Jarvis, sound design by John Cobban and script development by Alison Craighead, Jon Thomson and Steve Rushton.
This Event is related to the following Project:
Belief | Thomson and Craighead
Belief by Thomson and Craighead is a documentary artwork exploring the notion of belief through information sourced online. The development of the artwork stemmed from a piece of found-footage discussing the ‘faerie flag’ – an artefact steeped in mystery and myth, held at Dunvegan Castle in Skye. From this starting point, a whole series of fragmented broadcasts about belief systems and differing ideologies are presented. This work was the final installment in the artists' Flat Earth Trilogy and was supported by ATLAS, Creative Scotland, New Media Scotland (Alt-w fund) and Animate Projects.
